Multimedia & Video: Women in Healing

July 2008 This project sprouted from a routine collaboration with one of the reporters on staff at East Bay Newspapers. She wanted to do a story about the domestic violence support group at the Women's Resource Center in Warren, R.I. As we interviewed the participants, I was moved by their comments about the entrapment of emotional and physical abuse. I was intrigued to hear about what they were up to now that they had either taken the steps to recognize their abusive relationships or to be even further along in the healing process. Their stories were compelling. These women became revitalized by partaking in the simplest of activities, mowing the lawn, tending to their gardens, renovating vacation homes. Most of the women did not want to reveal their identities. The photos anonymously illustrate the empowerment they feel by carrying on and simply living independent of their abusers.Click here to view the slideshow.
